My journey so far

Hello and welcome to my first blog post.

I'm a 34 years old Danish laboratory technician, that has started a journey to become a programmer.

My history started back in 2020 doing the lockdown, when I wrote my first VBA script. It was just a small script, but it was big for me.

I didn't do much about it after I got back to work since it is not my primal objective. I mostly forgot about programming, until late 2021 when i got an offer from my job to take a course in advanced VBA. Shortly after my course, I got a task to transform a CSV to usefull data in Excel. It was a bit more complex compared to the first script I made back in 2020. But I also learned that VBA was good for a small repetitive task in Excel, and only for that.

So in the summer 2022 I decided to take a free online course in Javascript TheOdinProject

I learned a lot in The Odin project, I have learned about how to learn, and how to find answers on the internet, I started using Linux instead of windows, and much more.

Now I'm here in summer 2023, one Year of The Odin Project has passed and im 1/3 in their full-stack with javascript. I have asked myself why did I even start doing the odin project since I have never been that interested in web development, and it actually not i the scope of my long life dream of programming. But I'm still glad that I have used that year. But now I have put aside to start a new journey with python.

The reason I have put Javascript aside is I got the opportunity to take a Python for Everybody Specialization at coursera.org as part of my daily work.

I'm looking forward to jumping into this new language and seeing what it can bring to me.

This blog is mostly for myself, to keep track of my learning progress and to help the future my self. If anyone comes by, I hope I can bring inspiration and or motivation if you get stuck in your journey.

Next up I will bring my plan for how I will tackle this new language.

Take care

Mattias
